The production site in Sluiskil has been located on the canal from Ghent to Terneuzen, an important passageway on deep water since 1929. On the one hand connected through the Westerschelde with the North Sea and on the other hand good connections to the important European rivers and canals. As many European fertilizer production sites, the development was related to the availability of coke oven gas from a neighboring coking plant. Today, Yara Sluiskil uses mainly North Sea gas to produce high-quality nitrogen fertilizers and industrial chemicals.
